Plane Talking

Let the sunshine…

…come in.

As reported earlier on PlaneTalking, last year Alice Springs Airport became the first Australian airport to have a large scale
photovoltaic system providing a direct source of renewable energy to itsinternal grid.

One year later, it is time for an evaluation: The 28 SolFocus arrays, each eight metres wide and seven metres high, now supply around 28 per cent of the airport’s energy needs and in this way reduces itscarbon emissions by about 470 tons per year.

This has not gone unnoticed: Alice Springs Airport’s Solar Power Station was announced as winner of the Commercial/Industry category inthis year’s  PowerWater Melaleuca Awards.

Here a short video of the project:

Moreover, this great project is far from being a loner! Also other airports like Denver International Airport, Fresno Yosemite International Airport and Charlotte Douglas International Airport show their commitment to environmental sustainability by deploying solar installments.
