Debate, discussion and decision: the cornerstones of a global summit dealing with issues as complex as new aircraft and engine technologies and from where we will get all the feedstock for sustainable biofuels. We have certainly had a lot of debate today. When we sat down to design the programme for this summit, we deliberately kept the day light on powerpoint presentations and with enough time for discussion - between the expert speakers and the expert audience. Otherwise, it'd just be like a university lecture... From comments I have received, we certainly acheived the debate and discussions.
Tomorrow, we'll be working a bit more on the decisions. After feedback from the rapporteurs of our biofuels and efficiency streams, we launch an executive panel of high-level industry chiefs who will take the results and issues raised today and try and flesh out some decisions - what is our way forward as an industry? How are we going to introduce sustainable biofuels on to commercial flights? What will be the new technology to wow the industry and reduce emissions - and how will we get it into service? All questions to be further explored tomorrow.
I'm off to bed in the summit hotel. But before I go, I leave you with another hotel (also somewhat connected with aviation), but a little more conceptual... Is it an April fool? Is it environmental? Probably not so much - the aerodynamics look a bit fuzzy. I'll leave it to you to decide...
