Welcome to the world of tomorrow
Enviro.aero is all about having a conversation. With colleagues who work in the industry. With the passengers who fly with us. With governments and with people concerned about the environment. So we developed this website and have started a blog to talk about some of the things we are doing as an industry to reduce our environmental impact. But this wouldn’t be the age of modern communications without stretching our legs further into the internet world and “doing what the kids are doing”! So, we are:
Twittering (actually, that should be ‘tweeting’)
If you have never heard of Twitter, you aren’t alone. I was introduced to it by our website guys who explained that it was “like a blog, only smaller”. It is a site on which subscribers (over 3 million and growing fast) can write messages of fewer than 140 characters, much like a text message. All the people that have then subscribed to your messages will get a copy of whatever you post, every time you update. We have nearly 800 people following the enviro.aero Twitter feed now – each time we write a blog post, update a case study on the website or find something interesting in the news, we will send out a twitter update – or a ‘tweet’. If it sounds like a bit too much fuss, Barack Obama was tweeting during his campaign… and this guy got out of jail by using twitter! Get tweeting via www.twitter.com/enviroaero, or click on the Twitter logo on the right.
YouTubing
Everyone is familiar with YouTube… well, we have our own YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/enviroaero which is where we are storing videos we come across and highlighting the videos on YouTube which demonstrate environmental advances and programmes across the aviation industry. It also gives us a chance to show you totally unrelated (but very touching) clips like this amazing advert from Aerolineas Argentinas:
Mobiling
Did you know that enviro.aero has a mobile version? Point your web-enabled Blackberry or mobile phone towards the website address www.enviro.aero and you will be re-directed towards a mobile-friendly version of the site.
And now… Facebooking!
It seems everyone is on Facebook now – in fact, there are over 120 million people on it. This social networking site brings together people from all walks of life and a huge number of aviation industry professionals and enthusiasts around the world. So, last week we launched a page for enviro.aero, to provide another platform on which to communicate. Check out our page and become a fan!
Soon…
Well, watch this space, as we continue to add new tools to enviro.aero.
