Seattle-Tacoma Airport and storm water management
Seattle-Tacoma Airport and storm water management
Sea-Tac Airport is the 25th busiest US commercial airport with a total of 31,296,628 air passengers in 2007.
Did you know?
- Storm water can potentially be contaminated by aircraft fuelling, de-icing, cleaning and maintenance, which can have negative effects on nearby streams.
What are we doing?
- Recently completed $31 million upgrades increased the system's available detention by 50 million gallons, double the treatment capacity and significantly increase pollutant removal efficiency.
- By 2008, an additional $14 million in improvements will further enhance the system's ability to manage de-icing compounds in the industrial wastewater.
- The airport was able to reduce the required flow-control storage volume, enable the use of ponds rather than expensive vaults and achieve a cost saving of $250 million.
What is the result?
- Sea-Tac Airport protects area creeks from flooding, contamination and sediment through its storm water management programme.
