KLM and Boeing 737 Winglets
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines operates 190 aircraft, with Amsterdam Schiphol as its home base.
Did you know?
- Winglets are retro-fitted onto airplanes; they are blended into the wing curve out and up from the wingtip.
- Winglets improve the aerodynamics of an aircraft, reducing fuel consumption and related CO2 emissions.
- Winglets minimize drag by reducing wingtip vortices that can cause drag and decrease lift.
What are we doing?
- KLM’s entire fleet of 737s will be equipped with winglets before the spring of 2008.
- All new Next Generation Boeing 737 aircraft delivered to KLM will come with winglets as standard features.
What is the result?
- Winglets are expected to reduce fuel consumption by around 3%, reducing C02 emissions by an equivalent amount.
- This, along with our efforts in other areas, is helping to limit our contribution to climate change.
