Iberia and SESAR

Did you know?

Iberia is participating in the Single European Sky project, which will reduce climate change emissions from aircraft.
The SESAR project (formerly known as SESAME) is the European air traffic control infrastructure modernisation programme, and is a key element in the creation of a Single European Sky.
SESAR aims to develop a next generation air traffic management system, capable of ensuring the safety and fluidity of air transport worldwide over the next 30 years.

What are we doing?

As well as renewing its fleet of aircraft, and adopting the appropriate operational measures, Iberia Airlines is actively participating in the SESAR Project, one of the best ways to achieve a reduction in climate change emissions.
The SESAR Consortium brings together the forces and expertise of companies and organizations from across the aviation sector: from airspace users, airports, air navigation services providers, the supply industry and many others, including safety regulators, the military, pilots & controllers associations and research centres as well as the significant expertise of Eurocontrol.
Iberia Airlines is a member of the User Advisory Board and works actively towards achieving the environmental goals of SESAR.
Within the SESAR Consortium, the User Advisory Board is responsible for decision-making processes within the Airspace User group, for organizing the work and communication of the Airspace Users within the SESAR Definition Phase Project as well as the relations with the other SESAR stakeholder groups and other Airspace Users.

What is the result?

Thanks to the enhanced efficiency on routes and the cutting of flying times that can be achieved by the SESAR programme, fuel savings of between 6 and 12% are expected: less fuel means less climate change emissions.
