Flybe and ecolabels
Flybe is Europe's largest regional airline.
Did you know?
- Flybe has invested over $2 billion in new, environmentally sensitive aircraft over the last two years.
- The Stern Review on the Economics of Climate Change says “information policies, including labelling and the sharing of best practice, can help consumers and businesses make sound decisions, and stimulate competitive markets for low-carbon and high-efficiency goods and services.”
What are we doing?
- Flybe developed an ecolabelling scheme, which assesses an airplane’s impact on the local environment, journey environment and passenger environment.
- Flybe provides passengers at the time of booking via the internet a breakdown of the fuel consumption, carbon emissions and noise patterns of the aircraft type to be used on their journey.
- Flybe partners with PURE the Clean Planet Trust (“PURE”) to assist passengers in carbon-offsetting.
What is the result?
- The ecolabelling scheme allows passengers, on the basis of fully transparent disclosure, to assess the environmental impact of their journey. Passengers will then be in a position to decide, on an informed basis, whether they want to carbon-offset that journey.
